  • In 2009 two cowshed structures were built as part of Jeeyar Sathabdi Mahotsavam, to commemorate birth centenary of Sri Sri Sri Thridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy. Initially 20 cows belonging to Shahiwal, Haryana White, Red Sindhi, and Kankrej breeds from Haryana were brought to the ashram. As per our scriptures, it is considered auspicious to see the back of a cow as soon as one gets up from bed every morning. Hence, everyday these cows take part in the early morning service (Viswaru:pa Darsana) of Lord Sri Rama Chandra, the presiding deity of Srirama Nagaram, JIVA at 5:30 AM. Go:kshi:ram (Milk of these indigenous cows) is offered to the Lord as naivedhyam at 6:00 AM and distributed to the devotees as thirtham.

  • The first calf born in the ashram go:sa:la was a male. It was born on Jagadguru Bhagavath Ramanujacharya’s Jayanthi (birthday) and therefore aptly named as Ramanujudu. The same evening another male calf was born and he was named Ek Hi Raja. Today, Ramanujudu and Ek Hi Raja, are used in drawing the cart that gets the green fodder grass from ashram farm to the go:sa:la to feed all the cows, bulls and calves.

  • Over the later years cows belonging to breeds such as Ongole, Deoni, Punganuru, Gir, and Naatu (Country Cows native to Andhra Pradesh area) were received through go:da:nas performed by devotees. The ashram accepts cows if donated by devotees and also makes arrangements for donations of cows (Go:da:na) if the devotees want to donate a cow to the asramam.

  • JIVA Go:sa:la has been growing over the years and the numbers of cows, calves, heifers, bulls, and oxen grew to 175.
